Lighting up Tibbet's Corner

Chan (45) (Small).JPG

This past Saturday night was our annual Chanukah party at Tibbet's Corner roundabout!  We were honoured to welcome the Worshipful Mayor of Merton,  Councillor David T. Williams J.P. who addressed the crowd of approximately 150 guests.
The Mayor remarked that this was his very first experience at a Jewish occasion, and was duly impressed by our warm welcome and hospitality!   Rabbi Dubov  thanked him, wished him continued success, and then presented the mayor with a menorah as a symbol of our Festival of Lights, as well as a copy of "Finding Happiness in unexpected Places", by Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks.  The children then gathered round the mayor to shake his hand and have a photo with him!
Of course we were all warmed up by our famous soup and hot latkes, and the children ran to the menorah at the top of the hill,  to inaugerate the very first night of Chanukah with the first light!
With a grand rendition of Maoz Tzur by our resident cantor Rabbi Dubov ;)  the Chanukah music just put everyone in a great mood and we started dancing! Everyone recieved chocolate chanukah coins and dreidels as a treat,  and of course, all diets aside, enjoyed the (ahem) calorie-free doughnuts!
All in all it was great fun, and a super start to Chanukah this year!
Join us the rest of the week for our other wonderful Chanukah events here at Chabad!
