Bret Stephens joined The New York Times as an op-ed columnist in April 2017. He has previously worked as a foreign-affairs columnist and deputy editorial-page editor of The Wall Street Journal, and as editor-in-chief of The Jerusalem Post. Among his many honors and distinctions are the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for commentary, the 2019 Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and three honorary doctorates. He is the author of "America in Retreat: The New Isolationism and the Coming Global Disorder" (Penguin, 2014). Stephens was raised in Mexico City, educated at the University of Chicago and London School of Economics, and lives with his family in New York State.
